Every so often, a business consultant takes a close look at what we do and suggests, politely, that we already have too many products. They aren't wrong on paper. But makers don't work from paper. The pull to turn a raw piece of wood into something useful and beautiful isn't a tap you can close. It runs on its own schedule, and sometimes it leads somewhere I only want to go once.
It might be a plank with a grain I'll never meet again. Sometimes it's a mood that won't come back, or an idea that belongs to one single object and no other. Those pieces don't fit neatly into a catalogue, and they shouldn't have to.
So I've given them their own space.
Atelier Aurdal is where I put the work that can't, and won't, be repeated. Each piece is made by hand, and each one leaves the workshop as the only one of its kind. No re-runs, no "we can do you another in six weeks". When it's gone, it's gone.
Marco Pierre White put it better than I could:
"A person who works with their hands is a laborer. A person who works with their hands and their brain is a craftsman. A person who works with their hands, their brain, and their heart is an artist."
This space is where my heart leads.
