The Perfect Sign:

A delicate balance between visibility and harmony with its environment.

- Clearly legible and easily located

- Enhances rather than intrudes on its surroundings.

- Long-lasting

These are the reasons why we chose to make our signage from air-dried oak. Air dried oak is wood that has been dried naturally through exposure to air, rather than using heat. This process involves stacking the oak in a manner that allows air to circulate around it, often taking several years to reach an optimal moisture content. Since this process happens in open barns exposed to our climate, this timber becomes acclimatised to life outside.

The gradual drying process helps preserve the wood’s natural oils and tannins, enhancing its durability and resistance. Air drying is also more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, aligning with sustainable practices by using less energy than kiln drying.

However, it can be quite hard to source good quality air dried oak. Typically the most ‘perfect’ oak is selected for kiln drying, as this is a quicker way of preparing the oak for sale.

Here comes the really good news. Through a close collaboration with one of the country’s leading oak specialists Hewins we have managed to get our hands on a large stock of very high grade air dried planks. We have therefore decided to reduce our prices on signage by 20%!

The prices have already been reflected on our website.
