Oak & Brass Candle Column

This candle column began as a single large block of solid oak, with a strip of solid brass inlaid down one edge and MEDITATION in progress... carved deep into its face. I wanted it to hold a candle with real presence, and that meant the candle holder had to match three things at once: the size of the oak, the brass inlay and the size of candle I felt the piece deserved. For a long time, nothing I found was right.

The answer came from a church supply store. The brass pricket on top, a wide dish with a spike to hold a large church candle, was made for altars and chapels, and it has the weight and proportion this piece needed. It sits on the oak as if it had always belonged there.

The oak has its own shakes and cracks, natural splits that opened as the wood dried. We think they add to the piece, and they are part of why it can never be repeated. Please watch the video to see them up close and make sure they are right for you.

There is only one. It won't be made again, because the block, the brass and the find that brought them together can't be repeated. When it has sold, it has gone.
