Packaging & Gift Wrap...

One of the main purposes of our company is to make a positive impact on the world around us. We pursuit this through everything we do, from the sourcing and usage of our precious oak, through the way we combine modern and traditional crafts in a way that best serves our world, all the way to how our designs are delivered to you.

Our designs are sustainable by nature, in that they are made to be used every day for the rest of your life and become the heirlooms of the future. In the unlikely event that you should need anything to be repaired, we can help with that too.

It goes without saying that any packaging material we use is recycled and we use it as sparingly as the weight of oak allows. We have chosen to work with DHL as our courier as we believe they are the most reliable and responsible option at the moment, and they help us in our mission to deliver orders safely all over the world.

Whenever possible we reuse packaging to wrap your parcels. That means your delivery may turn up in the box that was used to ship the sandpaper to our workshop or even the boxes from the deliveries to our homes. You get the idea. If something can be reused, it will be utilised.

We offer a completely natural packaging option too. Instead of bulking out a box with a traditional filler, we use hay and straw. The Friendly Farmers who supply our straw is even offering wildflower hay too certain time of year, which both smells delicious and when used as mulch in your garden might give you some wildflowers too!*

If you have a garden of any size or if you compost, we encourage you to select hay/straw as the protection in our boxes. The hay/straw can be used as mulch in your garden, and over time the delivery from The Oak & Rope Company can be spreading joy in your garden in unexpected ways…

Our preferred gift wrap is hessian. It is a natural product, sustainably sourced which looks stunning against the colour of our oak. There are a few other reasons why we love it:

• The natural colour of hessian complements the colour of our oak
• It does not crease during transport, so when our parcels are shipped with couriers all over the world the gift wrap still looks lovely
• Hessian can be reused. We encourage our customers to reuse it either to wrap other presents, to keep plants protected during winter or even using their own imagination to create table runners, place mats or other crafts projects
• If you simply want to dispose of the hessian, it is biodegradable in a home compost.

The ribbon we use is a wide grosgrain. We think wide ribbons gives it a gorgeous look. The colour might change with the seasons, but teal is probably our go to most of the year with a deep red mostly used for Christmas presents. If you have a particular preference you can add this in the comments at check out, as we often have a few other colours in stock too.

For smaller items the hessian can be a bit bulky, so then we might use a bespoke recycled paper gift wrap in The Oak & Rope Company deep green.

Our gift tags are handwritten on thick craft paper with a matching ribbon.

So if you are a bit surprised by the box we have shipped your order in, this is to say that there is method to our madness. We do not make bespoke packaging, we make bespoke gifts. Our mission is to get them to you safely, without damaging the oak but also without damaging the world we life in!
